CINCINNATI, Ohio - It was a tale of two rounds for Santa Clara men's golf on the opening day of action at the Bearcat Invite hosted by Cincinnati. The Broncos began the morning with a 9-over 293 in opening round, but bounced back in a big way by carding a 2-under 282 in the second round.

Santa Clara's big second round score helped make up some ground in the team standings where they are currently tied with Memphis for ninth at 7-over 575. The Broncos are seven strokes behind Louisville (even par-568) for fourth place while the top three teams - UNCG (8-under 560), Cincinnati (562) and Illinois State (562) - have a firm grip on the top three spots.

Play was suspended due to darkness with three teams unable to turn in the final cards. Play will resume for them at 6:15 a.m. PT before the final round tees off at 8:00 a.m. PT.

Nolan Forsman is the Broncos' top individual after carding an even par-73-69--142. He climbed 20 spots in the second round thanks to his 2-under 69 that included four birdies. Viraj Garewal also saw a big jump between rounds as he turned in a 1-under 70 in the second round to climb 15 spots for a tie for 24th at 1-over 73-70--143. Garewal rolled in four birdies in the second round, but the big highlight of the day was his 3-stroke eagle on the par-5 No. 10.

Oscar Zimmerman, making his fall debut, bounced back from an opening round 75 with a 1-under 70 in the second round. He climbed 20 spots and is tied with freshman teammate Calder Overfelt (72-73--145) for 34th at 3-over.  Julien Paltrinieri also improved between rounds, turning in a second round 2-over 73 to tie for 59th at 7-over 149.
