Overfelt In A Tie For Third After Opening Round 71 At Bandon Dunes Championship

BANDON, Ore. - Freshman Calder Overfelt had a stretch of five holes in which he made four birdies on his way to a Round 1 score of 1-under 71; he is currently tied for 3rd in the Bandon Dunes Championship. As a team, the Broncos are sitting in a tie for 8th with Sacramento State after posting a cumulative first round 19-over 307.

Julien Paltrinieri and Nolan Forsman also kept their scores lower as they posted a 4-over 76 and a 5-over 77 and are sitting in T24 and T36, respectively. Both also had multiple birdies as Paltrinieri made four and Forsman made two during their rounds.

The Bandon Dunes Course showed its teeth to Alex Conley and Viraj Garewal as they both had triple bogeys on their cards today. Conley ended up opening with an 11-over 83 and is tied for 92nd while Garewal opened with a 12-over 84 and is in a tie for 95th. Playing as an individual, Jolo Magcalayo started his day off with a birdie on the 18th but wasn't able to find much else on his way to a 10-over 82; he is currently at T82.

Boise State leads the field after posting a Round 1 8-over 296. The Broncos will resume play tomorrow with the second round of three total with another 8:30 AM PT shotgun start. Also, beginning tomorrow, four Broncos who are not competing in Bandon will be playing in the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout at Corica Park Golf Course just up the road in Alameda, Calif.; the event can be followed here.
