SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The second-ranked Santa Clara men's soccer team suffered only its second loss of the season at the hands of San Diego, as the Broncos dropped a 2-0 contest in San Diego on Friday night. With the loss, Santa Clara falls to 11-2-0 on the season and 4-1-0 in West Coast Conference action.

The Broncos started the match strong with two shots on goal in the first 10 minutes of play. Eric Irvine's shot in the 6th minute and Erik Ustruck's shot in the 10th minute both were blocked by San Diego goalkeeper Lance Friesz.

The Toreros broke open the scoreless match in the 66th minute when Michael Caso scored his second goal of the season. Caso found the back of the net when he connected on a rebound after a blocked shot from Scott Martin.

Martin would add his own goal in the 83rd minute to put the match out of reach for the Broncos. He headed in his second goal of the season off a corner kick from Eric Pohl.

For only the third time in 2004, the Broncos were out-shot by their opponent as the Toreros posted 15 shots to SCU's 13. SCU had three shots on goal in the contest.

Senior captain Will Weatherly led the Broncos' offense with three shots in the match, including a shot on goal in the 80th minute.

Santa Clara will remain in Southern California for a 3:00 p.m. WCC match at Loyola Marymount on Sunday afternoon.
