SCU Men's Soccer Opens Training Camp, Prep for Exhibition Match Saturday, Aug. 18

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara University men's soccer team, under the direction of 11th-year head coach and former US Olympic Team Captain Cameron Rast, will report to preseason training camp on Tuesday, Aug. 7.

Rast and the Broncos welcome back the reigning WCC points-leader, senior Erik Hurtado, who was sensational this summer with the Portland Timbers U-23 developmental side.

Junior teammate Carlos Montes also impressed during the offseason, earning recognition from the Premier Development League. Goalkeeper Larry Jackson and midfielders Wesley Culver and Glenn Vass all return after All-WCC seasons in 2011.

The group will practice twice a day this week, focusing on team chemistry and finalizing a roster. The Broncos open up their 2012 schedule with a home exhibition against Cal Poly Saturday, Aug. 18. The first of 10 official home games will be against Cal the night of Fri., Aug. 24 as part of the Bay Area Classic.

The Broncos have enjoyed 23 winning seasons over the past 25 years, which includes 11 West Coast Conference (WCC) titles and 19 NCAA tournament appearances. SCU was ranked as high as No. 18 nationally last season and posted the league's best overall record (11-5-4). 

Season tickets for all 10 home games start at $50 for adults and $35 for youth and seniors. The SCU athletic department is also offering a season ticket 'Family Plan,' which includes five tickets to every home game for just $100.
