Day 7 (July 2) - Cricket, A Unique Experience

A day off was welcome and the team was off to a relaxing Cricket match at Edgbaston grounds. While it has similarities to our baseball it is distinctly unique to Britain and its colonies.

The match only has two innings but ten batters to get out each frame.  The scores can easily reach into the hundreds, unlike our sport.

Following an afternoon of local sport we were off to Gusto in the heart of Birmingham. It was authentic Italian food and perfect for the evening meal for our young athletes.

The boys wandered the Bullring shopping area and local shopping district.  It extended all the way to the canals made famous by Peeky Blinders and Black Sabbath although it is much more tame in this modern era.

Back to training tomorrow and some team bonding in the afternoon.

Cheers,

-Coach Rast

Day 8 (July 3) -  I Have A Need… A Need For Speed

An early training had us ready for the next match day. With three matches on tap for the next three days we are happy to have a nearly full squad of players. After taking a couple of dings in the first match, it has been nice to have a couple days to train and rest. Still we look forward to tomorrow's fixture.

Once back at the hotel we took a quick lunch and were off to a carting track just a short walk from the Carlton Hotel. It was very similar to K-1 Go-karting back home.

The electric carts are quick but the tires were slick and controlling the speed was the key in securing the fastest times around the track. While freshman Jack Civitts seemed to master the course, there was no one more enjoyable to watch than our sports performance coach Michael Bowes.  His stylish approach was between drag racing and smash up derby. I'm not sure who enjoyed it more, him or all of us watching.

With an early match time at St. George's Park we were all ready to turn in early.

Cheers,

-Coach Rast
