Men's Soccer Alumni Weekend Welcomes Back Final Four Teams of 1998, 1999

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University's 1998 and 1999 NCAA College Cup Final Four teams will return to the SCU campus for an alumni match and banquet dinner on Saturday, May 15. The alumni are scheduled to play the current Broncos at Buck Shaw Stadium at 11:15 a.m. which follows a spring exhibition match with UC Santa Cruz at 9 a.m.

"It's a unique group of players. In the five times we have been to the College Cup finals this is the only group to go back-to-back," said Santa Clara men's soccer head coach Cameron Rast. "They achieved so many great things on the field and went on to great careers, not only within the game but in a number of different areas professionally."

The 1998 and 1999 Broncos combined to win 31 matches, produce 13 All-West Coast Conference honorees and five future pro players. The 1999 Broncos were ranked No. 1 nationally by Soccer America, College Soccer News and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

"For our guys to have a chance to interact with a lot of these former players is such a great opportunity," said Rast. "Many are leaders in their communities, have opened up their own businesses - really talented and quality people. For our guys to connect with them and get a sense of what they can go on to achieve is an important part of the weekend."
