SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara head men's soccer coach Cameron Rast announced the signing of St. Ignatius College Prep defender Jacob Rose to a National Letter of Intent this week. Rose will attend Santa Clara University in Fall 2009, along with fellow signees Erik Hurtado, Takahide Kameya and Larry Jackson.
"Jake is a good leader and a great athlete," said Rast. "The fact he was able to lead SI to their first ever CCS title says a lot about his impact on that team. We hope he can adjust quickly and compete for playing time early in his career."
The 6-foot-2 Rose's defensive skills helped St. Ignatius to 3-0 rout of St. Francis for the 2009 Central Coast Section Division II Championship. It was the Wildcats first-ever CCS title. In addition, for his efforts on the field as he aided St. Ignatius' run at the 2009 Western Catholic Athletic League (WCAL) championship, Rose was named to the All-WWCAL second team. The San Francisco native also co-captained the 2003 and 2004 District V Championship teams, as well as the 2003 State Cup Champions.
