SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University head men's soccer coach Cameron Rast has signed a multi-year contract extension through 2014 effective immediately, SCU Director of Athletics Dan Coonan announced Friday.

"At Santa Clara we strive to create the best environment possible for players to pursue their academic interests and achieve their athletic goals," said Rast who has been involved with Bronco soccer 15 of the last 19 years. "The University continues to support us in this endeavor which is why I am thrilled to be offered a contract extension."

Currently in his eighth season as head coach, Rast owns the best conference winning percentage in West Coast Conference (WCC) coaching history. Since he took over the program in 2002, the Broncos have qualified for the NCAA Tournament five times. He is a three-time honoree of the WCC `Coach of the Year' award and has guided Santa Clara to three WCC Championship titles (2003, 2006 & 2007).

"We are very happy to have Cam Rast sign on to continue to lead Santa Clara men's soccer," said Santa Clara athletic director Dan Coonan. "As a Santa Clara graduate and member of our Hall of Fame, he knows better than anyone else what Santa Clara is all about and how athletics fits within the overall mission of the University. I look forward to many more years of working with him."

Rast was twice named an All-American during an outstanding playing career at Santa Clara from 1988-1991. He was a key part of the Broncos' NCAA Championship team in 1989 and the 1991 squad which made a return trip to the College Cup Final. Rast went on to captain the U.S. Olympic Team at the 1992 Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain.

"I am thankful they continue to believe in us and our pursuit of playing at the top level collegiately," said Rast. "I am fortunate, as everyday I look forward to working with the guys on the team. There is no place I would rather be than here at SCU. As for what's ahead, my goal is and has always been, to have us in the College Cup."
