SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Santa Clara University was well represented when the 2009 Men's Soccer All-West Coast Conference Teams were announced today by the WCC office in San Bruno.

Santa Clara junior team captain Jalil Anibaba - the 2007 WCC Freshman of the Year - earned all-league honors for the third consecutive season. For the second time, Anibaba was named to the All-WCC First Team.

"A lot of the success I had playing center-back this year was because of the players around me," said Anibaba. "This award stems from guys like Kellen (Wantulok) and Mykell (Bates) who allowed us to have such a good defense."

The Broncos went 3-0-2 to finish the season and tie for fourth in the WCC in wins. Anibaba anchored a defensive that posted five shutouts.

Also honored, goalkeeper Larry Jackson (All-Freshman Team), forward Erik Hurtado (All-WCC Second Team/All-Freshman), forward Eric Masch (Honorable Mention) and midfielder Brandon Zimmerman (Honorable Mention).

A native of East Palo Alto, Jackson made a number of game-changing stops during 14 starts in goal as a true freshman. Jackson ranked third in the WCC with a 0.93 goal's against average versus conference opponents.

"Larry's organizational and leadership abilities on the field are exceptional for a young player," said Santa Clara Associate Head Coach Eric Yamamoto. "He single-handedly kept us in games this year."

Fellow underclassmen Hurtado and Masch - a sophomore from San Jose's Bellarmine Prep - ranked among the WCC's best offensive players. Zimmerman, a second-year player from Pasco, Washington, was recognized as an honorable mention selection for the second-straight season.

"We had a really good team and it showed by the way we finished (the year)," said Hurtado, who scored three game-winning goals in 2009. "There is a lot of talent in our younger classes. The fact we have five guys on the (All-WCC) team tells you how dangerous we can be in the future."
