Jalil Anibaba Honored Among Nation's Best

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University junior Jalil Anibaba was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-West Region team, the organization announced.

The defender from Davis, Calif., and team captain, was recently awarded his third straight All-West Coast Conference team honor after helping Santa Clara go unbeaten in the Broncos final five matches of 2009.

"Jalil is a leader on the field for us. He comes to play everyday," said Santa Clara head coach Cameron Rast. "His natural ability and talent allow him to make spectacular plays, both defensively and in attack."

Anibaba is in the midst of highly accomplished collegiate career. As a freshman in 2007 he was named the WCC `Freshman of the Year.' Santa Clara won the 2007 WCC Championship and advanced into the NCAA Tournament's third round. He represented the U.S. at the Pan Am Games in Brazil and garnered All-America honors by Soccer America as a sophomore in 2008.

In 2010, Anibaba will lead a Santa Clara team that returns five All-WCC players, including two that were named to the WCC 2009 All-Freshman team. The Broncos have a storied soccer tradition, qualifying for NCAA Tournament play 18 times and producing 52 professional players.
