Men’s Tennis Set for Fall Season Opener

Draws/Results: Aggie Invitational

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Reloading its roster with six of the nation's top recruits from across the country, the Santa Clara men's tennis team is prepared and ready to kick off the 2015-16 season this weekend in Davis, Calif., at the Aggie Invitational.

The Broncos will debut all six of their newcomers from the 2015 recruiting class, which was ranked No. 12 nationally and No. 1 for mid-major programs.

"Our squad looks very different this year with the addition of the six freshmen," said Santa Clara Head Coach Derek Mills. "Despite our youth, I'm confident in our ability to play with high energy and composure. The guys are excited to get back on the courts and we've certainly been working every day to improve our brand of tennis."

Blue Chip recruit Robert Seby, five-star recruits Andrew Gu and Connor Garnett, four-star recruits Morgan Stone and Kamran Khan, and three-star recruit Jeffrey Liang will all be competing in both singles and doubles play, with action beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Friday.

The invitational will be comprised of two doubles flights consisting of 16 teams each as well as two, 32 player filled singles flights. Every flight will also have a consolation bracket.

Joining Santa Clara, a host of other Northern California schools, including the University of California, Berkeley, Saint Mary's College, and the University of San Francisco will all be competing at the Marya Welch Tennis Center for this fall tuneup competition.

With brand new firepower to work with, the Broncos will work to use the next few months of the fall campaign as a time to gel as a team and progress individually.

"Our three competitions this fall will certainly help our team get ready for what's ahead in the spring, but more importantly, it will give our new guys a taste of what collegiate tennis is all about," said Mills. "We can't wait to get out there."
