SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Wrapping up the weekend with an unbeaten mark of 3-0, Robert Seby of the Santa Clara men's tennis team has been named West Coast Conference men's tennis singles player of the week.
This is the first time this season that a Bronco men's tennis player has taken home the award and the first in Seby's early career.
Competing this past weekend at the Mountain Pacific Invitational, Seby kick-started his momentous run Friday with a 7-6, 7-5 victory over Alexander Roggenkamp of Grand Canyon University. Just a few hours later, the Santa Clara freshman pulled off a comeback victory against the University of San Francisco's Vasco Valverde. Despite being down a set to his West Coast Conference opponent, Seby rallied to win the next two frames 6-3, 7-5. In the final match of the tournament, Seby dominated the University of Hawaii's Marcel Chan, rolling 6-0, 6-2.
On the year, Seby holds a 9-7 singles record and 7-4 mark in dual match play.
The Broncos (6-6) are off until Tuesday, March 22 when they play host to Tulane. The match starts at noon in Degheri Tennis Center.
