SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis is set to compete this weekend at the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships in Berkeley, California. The competition begins on Thursday, Oct. 13, and runs through Monday, Oct. 17, and is being held at California's Hellman Tennis Complex. Competition begins on Thursday at 8 a.m. with doubles play.

The singles and doubles main draw champions from this event gain automatic entry to the 2016 USTA/ITA National Indoor Collegiate Championships in Flushing, New York, on Nov. 3-6.

"After our first week at UC Davis we learned a lot," head coach Niall Angus said. "We have a young team and it was important to get a full 10 days of training in. They (the team) have really worked their tails off and now it's time to try and get some rewards from that hard work."

Student-athletes from 15 schools – Cal, Stanford, Oregon, Washington, Eastern Washington, Pacific, Gonzaga, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Fresno State, Saint Mary's, Sacramento State, Santa Clara and UC Davis – will compete in the regional.

The freshmen duo of Vasileios Iliopoulos and Jesus Tapiador Barajas will return to the court after making strong collegiate debuts at the UC Davis Aggie Invitational. The quartet of sophomores, Connor Garnett, Andrew Gu, Kamran Khan and Robert Seby will look to have a strong showing along with junior Max Heerinckx.

Garnett and Seby will be paired together for doubles action. Gu and Iliopoulos along with Tapiador Barajas and Khan are the other doubles pairings for the Broncos.

"I really believe that this team is a special one," Angus said. "They are all banning together and the teamwork has been good. Now, we're looking for the results side of things to match the intensity that we've had on the practice court."

The draws can be found here.

Live streaming and live scores are available for the six courts at the Hellman Tennis Complex from this page. Matches will also take place at the Hearst Tennis Courts on campus and the Channing Tennis Courts near campus

Admission is free.
