DAVIS, Calif. - Santa Clara men's tennis pulled off a hard-fought 4-3 road victory over UC Davis on Sunday.
Playing on court No. 6, Kamran Khan clinched the match by coming from behind against Mitchell Iwahiro of UC Davis (4-8) to claim a 4-6, 6-2, 7-6(4) victory.
Connor Garnett had given the Broncos a 3-2 edge with a three-set win (6-2, 1-6, 6-1) against Jonathan Star, but UC Davis' Ivan Thamma helped set up the dramatic final singles matchup with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Robert Seby on court No. 2.
Andrew Gu won twice on the day for the Broncos (6-2). He teamed with Seby at the No. 1 position to defeat Thamma and Everett Maltby 6-4, the lone doubles victory for Santa Clara.
Gu also defeated the top singles player for the Aggies, knocking off David Goulak in straight sets (6-1, 6-3)
NEXT UP
The Broncos play twice at home next weekend. They face Grand Canyon at noon on Saturday and Sacramento State at 2 p.m. the following day.
