Men’s Tennis – Four Broncos Named All-West Coast Conference

West Coast Conference Release

SAN MATEO, Calif. – Four Santa Clara men's tennis team players garnered All-West Coast Conference honors, the conference office announced on Thursday.

Graduate student Dominic Barretto was named All-WCC Second Team Singles and sophomore Mann Shah was named Singles Honorable Mention.  Graduate student Vasileios Iliopoulos and junior Arthur Neuhaus were named All-WCC Second Team Doubles.

The all-conference voting and major awards were voted by the 10 conference head coaches.

Barretto played in the top three spots of the singles lineup all season going 8-7.  He went 2-3 atop the lineup, 3-2 at No. 2 and 3-2 at No. 3.  Barretto won eight of his last 10 matches including two wins in a week at No. 1 to be tabbed Intercollegiate Tennis Association Universal Tennis Rating Division I National Player of the Week.  He is the first Santa Clara tennis player, men or women, to win the coveted ITA UTR Division I National Player of the Week honors.

This is the first conference honor for the graduate transfer from Cal.

Shah also earned his first conference honor when he finished the year 7-8 including 3-7 at No. 1 and 4-1 at No. 2.  The sophomore from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India won three of his last four matches.

Iliopoulos and Neuhaus teamed up in 11 doubles matches and finished with a 5-3 record, all at the top of the Bronco lineup.  The duo finished the year on a four-match winning streak including taking down the No. 77-ranked doubles team in the nation, August Holmgren and David Norfeldt of San Diego on the road.

This is the second all-conference recognition for Iliopoulos and the first for Neuhaus.  In 2017 Iliopoulos was named Doubles Honorable Mention as a freshman.

Santa Clara men's tennis won five of the last six matches to finish the year with a winning record at 8-7.

San Diego's Holmgren was named WCC Player of the Year.  Pepperdine's Guy Den Ouden was named Freshman of the Year and Pepperdine Head Coach Adam Schaechterle was named Coach of the Year.
