MORAGA, Calif. - Santa Clara men's tennis players Guillaume Dalmasso and Ryan Ali advanced to the finals of the ITA Northwest Regional Championships on Saturday.
Dalmasso and Ali each won their quarterfinals and semifinal matches with Dalmasso's coming in the main draw and Ali's in the consolation bracket.
Both of Dalmasso's victories were in three sets. In the quarterfinals, the Frenchman defeated San Francisco's Phuc Huynh 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3 before taking care of Stanford's Tomas Kopczynski 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in a comeback win.
On Sunday, Dalmasso will face Aryan Chaudhary of Stanford at 11 a.m. for the singles main draw title.
In the singles consolation bracket, Ali defeated David Woodland of San Francisco 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) in the quarterfinals and Cal's Lucas Magnaudet 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) in the semifinals.
Ali will take on another Cal player, Carl Emil at 11 a.m. on Sunday in the consolation bracket finals.
The five-day tournament which began in Wednesday is played at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex on the campus of Saint Mary's College.
The ITA Regional Championships feature some of the top men's and women's players across the country. Over 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete across 85 ITA Regional Championships around the country. In Division I, regional doubles champions and regional singles champions and finalists qualify for the season-ending ITA National Fall Championships.
