SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara men's tennis capped a perfect week, winning its second West Coast Conference match in as many days and third victory overall, with a 4-1 triumph over Pacific on Saturday afternoon at the Degheri Tennis Center.
James Bell was involved in both the doubles and match clinching wins where he teamed up with Nick Cmager to down Ran Amar and Coby McCaig 6-3 on court three to put the Broncos (7-6, 2-0 WCC) on the scoreboard, 1-0. Bell then defeated Manroop Saini in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 on court four to give Santa Clara its second WCC win after beating Saint Mary's in the conference opener on Friday. The Broncos also beat Yale, 4-1, earlier in the week.
Santiago Hinojosa earned the first singles point for SCU with a quick 6-1, 6-1 victory over Liam Puttergill on court five.
Pacific (3-12, 0-2) got a point back on court three when Amar defeated Mann Shah, 6-2, 6-2 but Guillaume Dalmasso, who moved atop the singles lineup this week, beat Aleska Mardjonovic 6-1, 6-4 to push the Broncos lead out to 3-1. Bell, shortly followed with his win to secure the team victory.
