SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara men's tennis swept the singles matches to defeat BYU 4-1 in a West Coast Conference home match on Saturday at the Degheri Tennis Center.
The Broncos (8-8, 3-2 WCC) dropped the doubles point but it did not affect the singles play as Arthur Neuhaus, Santiago Hinojosa, James Bell and Guillaume Dalmasso each won their singles matches in straight sets.
Neuhaus got the ball rolling for Santa Clara defeating Matheus Ferreira Lei 6-1, 6-1 on court two to even the team score at 1-all. Hinojosa followed with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Otto Schreiner on court five to put the Broncos up 2-1. Bell gave the Broncos a two point cushion at 3-1 on the strength of his 6-3, 6-4 victory over Dominik Jakovljevic on court four.
Dalmasso finished it off with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 victory over Wally Thayne atop the singles lineup to clinch the match over BYU (8-9, 1-4 WCC).
