Men’s Tennis Signs Experienced Western Michigan Transfer

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara men's tennis team signed Arjun Honnappa, a nationally ranked ITA doubles player and a seasoned veteran from Western Michigan University.  The graduate transfer will have one season of eligibility.

Honnappa will join the Broncos in the fall of 2023 after posting a career record of 73-40 in singles and 55-39 in double in his four seasons with the WMU Broncos.  The Bengaluru, India native was ranked as high as No. 54 nationally in the ITA Division I doubles rankings and twice led Western Michigan to the Mid-American Conference championship.

"I chose Santa Clara because it has a strong business school and a highly-regarded Master of Science in Finance program, which align with my academic goals," said Honnappa who was named ITA Scholar-Athlete and to the All-MAC Academic Team four times each.  "However, what sealed the deal for me was the opportunity to be part of a winning culture and make an impact on the tennis team. The coaching staff and athletic program are exceptional, and I am excited to be a part of a team that is focused on achieving its goals and winning a championship."

The 6-foot-4 left-handed hitting Honnappa has recorded double digit wins in both singles and doubles in each of his four seasons with Western Michigan.

"Arjun will bring a wealth of experience to our team. His leadership qualities as well as his high tennis IQ and understanding of what it takes to win conference championships will be a fantastic addition to our program," said Santa Clara head coach Niall Angus.  "I am excited to get to work with Arjun in the fall and can't wait for him to be able to show our Bronco supporters what he can do on the court!"
