Men's Water Polo Earns First Win at Triton Invitational

Sept. 9, 2002

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Sophomore Nick Takahashi scored four times to lead the Santa Clara University men's water polo team to its first win of the 2002 season, a 7-5 victory over Whittier to close out play at the Triton Invitational, hosted by UC San Diego.

The win moves the Broncos to 1-3 on the season, after a 15-3 loss to Air Force earlier this morning.

J.P. Doucette, Whit Gilfillan and Mark Oda each added one score against Whittier while the tallies against the Falcons were registered by freshmen Jon Greco, Mike Vancura and marc Hausle.

"Nick played extremely well this weekend," head coach Keith Wilbur said. "And so did a lot of our freshmen, who saw quite a bit of playing time in their first weekend of collegiate water polo."

Goalkeeper Pete Moore was also praised by Wilbur, as Moore notched 15 blocks in the victory against Whittier.

The Broncos remain on the road and will travel to Stockton for a Wednesday match against Pacific at 4 p.m.
