STOCKTON, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's water polo team fell to 10th-ranked Pacific 14-9 this evening in Stockton. The Broncos are now 3-2 on the season.

"Our guys played well against a very good team," head coach Keith Wilbur said. "We were much more competitive this year than last, when we lost 17-3 to this squad."

The Tigers' offense rolled early, scoring three goals in first period, including Adam Zobler's back-to-back goals with 1:28 and :46 remaining in the frame.

The next two quarters is where Pacific did most of their damage, tallying four goals each in the second and third periods, outscoring Santa Clara 8-6. Eddie Wisniewski picked up four goals during the two periods. Assisting in the scoring department during the two periods was Julian Gonzalez, who added his first two goals of the season as well as assisted on two of Wisniewski scores.

Santa Clara would come back to cut the lead to three, 12-9, with 1:11 to go in the fourth period, but Pacific tacked on two late goals for the five-goal win.

Wilbur credited plays by Kenny Flanagan-De La Hoz and Grant Allison, who combined to draw eight kick outs to spark the Bronco offense.

"They did excellent work in getting our team man-up opportunities," he added.

Tiger netminder Rob Low swatted away 10 shots and added four steals.

Pacing Santa Clara's offense was senior Daniel Figoni with three goals, while goalie Peter Moore came up with 11 blocks and one steal

The Broncos return to the pool this weekend, with three matches played at UC Santa Cruz's East Field House. On Saturday, Santa Clara will play Cal Maritime at 1 p.m. and second-ranked (Div. III) UC Santa Cruz at 5 p.m. Sunday's action will include Santa Clara battling t-6th (Div. III) La Verne at 10 a.m. Those two teams just faced each other last weekend at the Inland Empire Classic and saw the Broncos earn a close 8-6 victory.
