Oct. 10, 2003

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's water polo team defeated Division III fifth-ranked Whittier 10-4 in continuing action at the 11th annual Convergence Tournament, hosted by Claremont at Pomona-Pitzer's Haldeman Pool.

Combined with the Broncos' 12-6 victory earlier today over Chaminade, the team's record improves to 11-8.

"This was our best game regarding the counterattack," head coach Keith Wilbur said. "We executed well and scored 60 percent of our goals off the counterattack."

The Broncos also had 10 steals as a team, led by Logan Gee's three. In scoring, Daniel Figoni had four, while Kenny Flanagan-De La Hoz added two. One tally each was notched by Gee, Mark Perlite, Kevin Starry and Danny Soares. In goal, Peter Moore registered nine saves, while Floyd Tucker also saw action, grabbing one block.

Santa Clara will continue action at the Convergence Tournament on Saturday, facing 15th-ranked BYU-Hawaii at 8:30 a.m. before closing participation against Division III eighth-ranked Pomona-Pitzer at 1 p.m. On Sunday, the Broncos return to the Bay Area and will host an alumni game at the Leavey Pool at 1 p.m.
