SANTA CLARA, Calif. - After leading Santa Clara to their first four wins of the season, sophomore Jack Wall was named Western Water Polo Association Player of the Week. Wall is only the fourth player to receive the honor this season, and is the first Bronco to do so in 2006.

"He does all the things you'd expect of your go-to guy", said head coach Keith Wilbur. "Thinking about all four games, each game he was big. He hit the shots at all the important times, played great defense, got out on counters and was our number one shooting threat."

In the first 12 games for Santa Clara (4-8), Wall has 34 goals, and in last weekend's four straight wins, Wall contributed 15 of those goals, including three or more goals in each of the four games: three against no. 15 ranked University of Redlands, five against Claremont, three against California Lutheran, and four against Whittier. In just his second season, he is solidifying his bid to be the Broncos leading scorer again in 2006.

"I'm astounded", said Wall, who was pleasantly surprised at news of the honor. "The win over Redlands was huge and it really got our team going. To come from 0-8 and win four straight, especially against Redlands was great for our team."

In related news, the Santa Clara's 4-0 performance this past weekend earned them a No.20 ranking from the National Collegiate Water Polo Association, one of only six WWPA teams to appear in this week's poll.

This weekend Jack will be back in the pool as the Broncos take on California Baptist University on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. from Santa Cruz, and then return to Santa Clara to take on UC Davis on Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the Malley Pool.
