Men's Water Polo Weekend Wrap-Up

BERKELEY, Calif. - No. 14 Santa Clara men's water polo played two games in the Cal Bear Invitational on Sat., Sept. 3 at the University of California, Berkeley. The Broncos dropped their season opener by a score of 11-2 to No. 5 Pacific. The second game of the day was against the hometown No. 2 Cal Bears and the Broncos fell by a score of 21-3.

Against Pacific Theo Nasser and James Case scored the two Santa Clara goals in the first and third quarters. Senior goalie Michael Wishart had an impressive 16 saves in the match.

Against Cal, Nasser and Case scored again but this time Jimmy Moore added a goal of his own. Wishart recorded three saves in the first half. John Nash played the third quarter in goal, recording three saves, while Matt Pritchett played the fourth with two saves.

The Broncos return to the pool next weekend as part of the Princeton Tournament. The first Santa Clara game with be against Princeton at 3 p.m. on Fri., Sept. 9 and will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU. On Sat., Sept. 10 the Broncos will play St. Francis (N.Y.) at 6 a.m. Pacific time and at 4 p.m. against Brown. Santa Clara wraps up the weekend with matches against MIT at 7:20 a.m. and Fordham at 1:0 p.m. on Sun., Sept. 11.
