Broncos Win Three Of Four Games at Aggie Shootout

DAVIS, Calif. - Santa Clara University men's water polo (9-6) wrapped up play at the Aggie Shootout in Davis, Calif. today with a win against La Verne and a loss against No. 3 Cal.  The split put the Broncos at 3-1 for the tournament.

The Broncos played very well in game one against La Verne and cruised to a 18-5 victory. They opened the scoring with a 6-1 first quarter and never looked back. Tucker Carlson and Theo Nasser were at the forefront of Santa Clara's offensive charge with four goals each. Mark Davis added three goals of his own while Marcus Akerland and James Case had two goals apiece. C.J. D'Arienzo, Matt Kochalko and Kyle Surber each scored once to round out the Bronco scoring.

In the second game of the day, No. 3 Cal turned out to be too much for Santa Clara. Cal scored five goals in the first and second quarters while the Broncos could only score once in the first half and were down 10-1 at halftime. Kochalko and Surber were the two Broncos to score and senior goalkeeper Michael Wishart recorded eight blocks on the game. In the end, Cal won by a final score of 18-2.

The Broncos return to the pool next weekend for two games at the SoCal Tournament in Long Beach, Calif. The opponents and game times are to be announced.
