SANTA CLARA
, Calif. - Santa Clara men's water polo (11-10; 4-4 WWPA), ranked No. 14 in the country, fell to No. 3 UCLA on Sunday by a score of 12-9 at the Sullivan Aquatic Center.

"I thought we did really well at two meters today and Wishart played great in the cage. The team defense was great. We were 0-0 for the first four minutes as we focused on taking away their counter attack and playing good defense," said Santa Clara head coach Keith Wilbur. "I thought we played really well overall and learned a lot about what we are capable of doing. To stay close with the number three team in the country is a step in the right direction."

The Bronco offense was led by Theo Nasser who had three goals. Mark Davis added two goals of his own and Marcus Akerland, Matt Kochalko, Jimmy Moore and Tucker Carlson added one goal apiece. Daley Meistrell added two assists to inch closer to the all-time Santa Clara record.

Senior goalkeeper Michael Wishart had 12 saves on the day. The 12 blocks put Wishart 39 shy of the all-time Santa Clara record held by Peter Moore. Carlson drew two kick outs and Nasser drew one to go along with their goals.

The Broncos return to the pool next weekend as they host the Rodeo Tournament. The Rodeo will go from Fri., Oct. 21 through Sun. Oct. 23 at the Sullivan Aquatic Center.
