Men's Water Polo Mark Davis Named Kap7 Player of the Week

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - After going 3-2 in their season opening weekend at the Bruno Fall Classic in Providence, R.I., Bronco senior Mark Davis of the No. 14 men's water polo team has been named Kap7 Play of the Week (Sept. 17).

"I'm very honored to be named Player of the Week by our conference," said Davis. "It's a testament to our successful preseason that we've had, as well as the teammates around me. Everyone has been pushing it very hard in the pool and in the weight room. We have a very talented team this year and I'm looking forward to having a great tournament at the Kap7 NorCal Classic this weekend in Stockton!"

Davis started and played in all five games at the Bruno Fall Classic. He led the team with 13 goals, had four assists and five steals. Davis had two four-goal games in the wins over host Brown and No. 14 Harvard. He also led the Broncos to a 12-7 win over No. 14 Navy.

"Mark Davis played great water polo this past weekend in Brown," said Bronco head coach Keith Wilbur.  "He always gets a tough defensive assignment, and he consistently shuts down some of the best players on the opposing teams throughout all our games.  At the same time, he played very well on the offensive end and led our team in scoring.  Most importantly, Mark showed real leadership during the course of play in difficult game situations, and that was and will continue to be very important to our team."

The team will now head to Stockton to play in the Kap7 NorCal Classic tournament hosted by No. 6 Pacific.
