Women's Basketball Takes Down CSU Bakersfield on Saturday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Lindsey VanAllen scored a game-high 26 points as Santa Clara women's basketball cruised to a 67-53 win over Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday afternoon in the Leavey Center. 

VanAllen was 6-of-10 from the floor with a pair of 3-pointers and knocked down 12 of her 14 free throw attempts in the winning effort. Ashley Hiraki chipped in 11 points while Merle Wiehl tallied nine points to go with her team-best seven rebounds. 

The Broncos (4-1) shot 44 percent from the field (20-of-45) and won the battle of the boards, 35-26. After trailing by three at the half at 29-26, Santa Clara took control of the game late in the third quarter as a VanAllen triple put the Broncos on top for good with 2:22 to go in the period. In the fourth quarter, it was all Broncos as they scored 23 points and built as much as a 19-point lead with just over a minute to play. 

The Roadrunners (1-3) were led by Jayden Eggleston's 17 points and finished the game 18-of-51 (35 percent) from the floor.

  • Santa Clara is now 5-3 all-time against CSU Bakersfield.
