Beach Volleyball Captures Two Duals Saturday, Runs Winning Streak to Four

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Santa Clara beach volleyball won twice on Saturday to run its winning streak to four consecutive duals. The Broncos topped San José State 3-2 in the morning and swept Sacramento State 5-0 in the afternoon at Hornet Beach.

The Broncos (5-2) are on their longest winning streak since taking six in a row in 2016. They have already exceeded the three-win total from the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.

Santa Clara secured seven of its eight match wins in straight sets on Saturday, including all five matches against the Hornets (0-3).

Alex Anthony/Jordan Bennett (No. 3) and Gretchen Reinert/Kat Georgiadis (No. 4) swept both of their contests on the day.

Julia Sangiacomo/Michelle Shaffer (No. 1) won in three sets against San José State's Jaida Ward/Haylee Nelson, then swept Sacramento State's Ashtin Olin/Macey Hayden.

Kathryn Decker/Claire Doud (court two) bounced back from a defeat against Letizia Cammillucci/Siena Brewster of the Spartans (0-2) with a two-set win over Paige Swinney/Kalani Hayes of the Hornets. Alexia Gallegos/Natalia Rentsch had the most decisive win of the day with a 21-17, 21-8 victory over Caty Cordano/Karlee Soderberg of the host Hornets.

"I'm very proud of our team right now," associate head coach Jeff Alzina said. "Winning four duals in a row and being 5-2 overall is a big step forward for our program. We are excited for the challenge we'll face next week playing three top-ranked teams on the road, which will really prepare us for conference championships the following week."
