DAVIS, Calif. — The Santa Clara University beach volleyball team competed hard on Saturday in two matches on the road, falling in both by 4-1 scores, first to Boise State in a neutral site matchup, and later again versus host UC Davis at the UC Davis Beach Volleyball Courts.

Nicole Robison and Julia Sangiacomo earned Santa Clara's (12-10) lone win against Boise State in a battle of Broncos mascots. The Santa Clara duo swept Sierra Land and Madison Nichols at the top pairs spot, 21-19, 23-21.
Jordan Bennett and Claire Doud nearly earned the victory at No. 4 pairs. They pushed Kaylee Mejia and Elli Wolthuis to three sets, winning the first in extra points, 23-21, before the Boise State pair won the second set, 21-16, and the third, 15-12.

Though the final score between the Broncos and Aggies was the same as Boise State, it couldn't have been closer.
Santa Clara pushed three of the four pairs they lost to three sets. Two of those pairs started with dropped sets in extra points by identical scores of 22-20. The Santa Clara duos of Casey Campbell and Elena Radeff (No. 2) and Hailey Benesz and Alexie Epstein (No. 5) both recovered to win set two and even their matches at 1-1. But it was the UC Davis duos that would eek out the victory with third-set wins in both cases.
It was the second time this season the Aggies beat the Broncos, 4-1. Santa Clara inched closer this time with three pairs that went to three sets, where in their first meeting on March 4, only one pair (No. 5) went to three.

The Broncos return home on Wednesday to host West Coast Conference foe San Francisco at 3 p.m.
