Women's Golf Eighth After Opening Day of Aggie Invitational

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - A collegiate-best round by Olivia Venderby led Santa Clara women's golf on the opening day of the Aggie Invitational.

The sophomore carded a 2-under-par 70 to the help land the Broncos in eighth place after 18 holes of play at the 20-team tournament being competed at New Mexico State's home course.

Venderby is in a five-way tied for fourth place. Lexi Perry of Boise State leads the field at 4-under 68. Keisha Lugito of Seattle and Kate Villegas of UC-Riverside are one shot back in a tie for second.

Incarnate Word leads the field at 6-under 282 and Boise State is four shots back in second place. The Broncos shot 8-over 296 and trail sixth-place South Dakota State by two shots and Long Beach State by one.

Claire Choi and Inara Sharma are next on the leaderboard for the Broncos. They each shot a 3-over 75 on the NM State Golf Course and are tied for 36th.

Borina Sutikto is one shot back of that duo in a tie for 45th. Madison Spiess is tied for 75th after shooting a 79.
