KAPOLEI, Hawai'i - Solid opening rounds by Claire Choi, Lauren Shew and Inara Sharma have Santa Clara women's golf off to a strong start at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational.
The Broncos are in second place after firing an 8-over-par 296 on Monday in the nine-team event that is being held at Kapolei Golf Course.
Baylor, ranked No. 6 nationally by Golfstat.com, leads the field with a 4-under 284.
Britta Snyder of Baylor, one of only four golfers under-par, is atop the individual leaderboard at 3-under 69.
Choi, who had five birdies on the back nine, is tied for third at even-par 72. Shew birdied three of the four par-3 holes and sits in a tie for seventh at 1-over. Sharma carded a 2-over 74 and is tied for 12th place.
Santa Clara is two shots ahead of tournament host Hawai'i. Idaho is fourth at 11-over 299.
Rounding out the lineup for the Broncos is Borina Sutikto who is tied for 23rd at 5-over 77 and Olivia Venderby is 45th at 10-over 82.
Playing in her first tournament and among the five individuals, Skyler May is 48th after shooting an 85.
