KAPOLEI, Hawai'i - Santa Clara women's golf had one of the best tournament performances in school history to claim second place behind one of the top teams in the nation at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational.
Closing with two of the best rounds on record, the Broncos carded a 7-over 871 (296-285-290), the third-best total in Santa Clara history, in the three-day event that ended on Wednesday.
Baylor, ranked No. 6 nationally by Golfstat.com, was well ahead of the nine-team field with a 23-under total of 841.
The Bears held the top three places on the individual leaderboard. Gurleen Kaur won the event with an 8-under 208, one shot clear of second-round leader Britta Snyder.
Idaho was third at 14-over 878 and host Hawai'i at Manoa fourth at 18-over.
Claire Choi was the top finisher for the Broncos. The native of Honolulu, Hawai'i, was fourth with a 2-under 214 (72-71-71) and one of only five golfers under-par on the Kapolei Golf Course.
Santa Clara's second-round 3-under was the fourth-lowest total in the record book and the 2-over score over the last 18 holes is tied for the eighth-best mark.
Three other Broncos finished among the top 15 in the team's final tournament of the fall.
Lauren Shew was tied for 10th at 2-over 218 (73-71-74), Inara Sharma tied for 12th with a 3-over 219 (74-72-73) and Borina Sutikto carded a 4-over 220 (77-71-72) to end in a toe for 14th.
Olivia Venderby rounded out the Santa Clara lineup. She finished 39th at 17-over 233 (82-76-75).
Skyler May made her first-career appearance for the team and finished 46th at 25-over 241 (85-79-77).

The Broncos have completed their four fall tournaments. They won't compete again until Feb. 7-8, at The Valley Invitational Bakersfield, California.
