AS A SENIOR IN 2005: Team captain ... named to Soccer Buzz' All-West Region third team ... an All-WCC honorable mention performer ... named to Academic All-District VIII third team ... president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council ... started all 22 games in which she appeared ... netted a pair of goals and had four assists ... netted the equalizer at Cal on Sept. 18, a game SCU eventually won in overtime ... assisted on Jordan Angeli's game-winner in third round against Boston College ... netted her second goal at Penn State in NCAA Quarterfinal round.

AS A JUNIOR IN 2004: Started 24 contests at defender and saw action in all 25 contests... netted one goal and four assists for six points... scored the game-winner against Rhode Island at the Rutgers Classic... scored off a deflection in the 17th minute... assisted on two goals at the SCU adidas Classic... added an assist on the game-winner against Gonzaga... assisted on the game-winner in the NCAA quarterfinal against Illinois.  

AS A SOPHOMORE IN 2003: An honorable mention All-West Coast Conference honoree... honored by teammates as the squad's Most Inspirational Player... started all 21 contests she was available for... began season at midfield, but played mostly at left back... missed start against USC due to a red card that was issued against Notre Dame... sprained medial collateral ligament in right knee midway through second half against Pepperdine... did not play at San Francisco or Saint Mary's... scored two goals and four assists for eight points... scored both goals at San Jose State, the second on a steal in the penalty box... assisted on the game-winner against Cal Poly... assisted on game-winner against TCU... named to Soccer America and Soccer Buzz Teams of the Week for performances at Stanford Invitational, holding opponents to only 10 shots and no goals... earned assist against LMU... returned to action against Portland after missing two matches and earned an assist off a free kick... was part of a defense that allowed only four goals during the WCC season.  

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2002: A Soccer America Freshman All-America honoree... a first team Freshman All-America from Soccer Buzz... earned freshman All-West Region honors from Soccer Buzz... an honorable mention All-WCC team selection... SCU's Rookie of the Year... made first collegiate start against Stanford and started the first 19 contests... had 25 total starts... did not start on senior night against Gonzaga, but saw second-half action... despite never playing fullback, started on the right side for the first seven contests... returned to midfield for 10 consecutive matches, but moved again to the defense against Portland and remained there through the NCAA Tournament.. finished with six goals and three assists for 15 points... earned first collegiate goal against Notre Dame, gathering a loose ball off a corner kick at the top of the arc and chipping a shot in... registered first on SCU's third goal against Oklahoma... scored the game-winner in conference opener against San Diego... also scored against San Jose State... registered an ESPN highlight-worthy goal against Saint Mary's, with a bicycle kick... added a break-a-way goal against San Francisco... scored against Pacific... made NCAA Tournament debut in the first round against Creighton, and posted five shots... prevented a goal in the College Cup semifinal with a diving save in first-half action against North Carolina.  

OLYMPIC DEVELOPMENT TEAM EXPERIENCE: A member of New Mexico's Olympic Development Team for the past five years... a member of the national pool in 1998 and '99... selected to the adidas Elite Soccer Program in 2000.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played under head coach Bill Weir at the Albuquerque (N.M.) Academy... named the NSCAA/adidas New Mexico Player of the Year and the Albuquerque Tribune/Maloof Athlete of the Year as a junior and senior... led her prep team to the state championship in 2000 and '01 while placing second in 1999... scored five goals in the 2001 title match... team won the district championships all four years... named a New Mexico All-Star midfielder three times, while also earning first-team All-State and All-City honors four straight years... a three-time All Rocky Mountain Region honoree... was the team captain as a senior... led the squad in goals and assists, including seven scores in the state tournament as a junior... finished prep career with 98 goals and 61 assists, including a 26-goal, 21 assist senior year... won eight state championships with her club teams, including six with Albuquerque United... starting point guard on the Academy's varsity basketball squad and is a three-time All-District 3 AAAA honoree... is also an accomplished track athlete, earning state titles in the 300-meter hurdles, as well as the 800-meter and 1600-meter relays... won the 800-meter event as an eighth-grader... led team to state title in 2002... is also a four-time all-Academic honoree... a 2001 National Hispanic Merit Scholar... volunteered for the Special Olympics and the American Cancer Society.

PERSONAL: Full name is Micaela Marie Esquivel... born in Albuquerque, N.M... parents are Tony and Geraldine Esquivel... has three sisters, Maria, Milinda and Marisa... Milinda, 22, plays soccer at Trinity University... majoring in biology.
