SANTA CLARA, Calif. – No. 25 Santa Clara women's soccer posted a hard-earned 1-0 win over No. 11 BYU on Saturday afternoon at home to move into a first place tie with the Cougars atop of the West Coast Conference standings.

After a brutal back-and-forth through the first 73 minutes, the Broncos (9-5-2, 6-1) finally broke through in the 74th on the ninth of the year from Kelsey Turnbow. The Cougars (11-4-1, 6-1 WCC) gave it all they had over the final 15 minutes, pushing forward, but the Santa Clara defense stood tall and kept the lead.

Kylie Foutch made a pair of monster saves over the final minutes of action to keep the clean sheet. In all, she made five saves and became just the third keeper this year to shut out BYU, the top-ranked offense in the country that came in scoring 3.87 goals per match. Over their previous nine matches since the last shutout, the Cougars had scored 45 goals.

BYU had some of its best chances early on, hitting the post twice in the early going and the crossbar later in the first half. In all, the Cougars fired 16 shots but got just five on target. The Broncos put six of their 10 shots on frame.

• Santa Clara is now 10-3-5 all-time against BYU.
• Kelsey Turnbow is in fifth place at Santa Clara in career goals with 54. Next is Jenni Symons and Jacqui Little with 63 each. Turnbow is 10th all-time at with 33 assists. Osborne is ninth with 34. Turnbow is also at 141 points, which is fifth. Jenny Fechner's is fourth with 156.
• Head coach Jerry Smith now has 517 career wins, the third most Division I wins in women's soccer history.
