NOTES

  • Santa Clara is coming off its second consecutive College Cup appearance in 2021 after winning the 2020 National Championship. The Broncos finished the season 15-5-3 overall and 8-1 in West Coast Conference play, securing their second-straight WCC title.
  • They closed the season on fire, going 12-1-1 in the final 14 matches, featuring wins over No. 3 Pepperdine, No. 11 BYU, No. 20 Stanford, at No. 22 Georgetown, and at No. 4 Duke.
  • Nine new players join the team, seven freshmen and two transfers, after having eight graduate. Izzy D'Aquila is the top returning scorer from last season when she scored eight goals and added four assists for 20 points. She was named Preseason All-WCC along with Sally Menti.
  • Menti was scheduled to miss the first part of the season while away with the U20 National Team playing in the World Cup but suffered a torn ACL and is out for the season. She was replaced on the US roster by Santa Clara freshman Annie Karich.
  • Last year, the Broncos scored 40 goals, good for 1.74 per match, while allowing just 19, .83 per match. They outshot opponents nearly two-to-one at 377-196 and in shots on goal at 185-90.
  • Santa Clara has been to 31 NCAA Tournaments, 12 College Cups (1989, 1990, 1992, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2020, 2021), and won two National Championships (2001, 2020). The program is just the seventh with two or more national titles. Only three teams have more.
  • The Broncos have won the West Coast Conference 12 times (1993, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2013, 2020, 2021).
  • Head coach Jerry Smith is in his 36th year. He has 523 career wins, the third most Division I wins in women's soccer history.
