Women's Soccer Drops 1-0 Match to Cal

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's soccer couldn't keep its offensive momentum going and lost 1-0 to Cal Sunday at home.

It was more of a defensive game on both ends with the lone tally coming for the Bears (3-1-3) in the 29th minute when Anysa Gray knocked in a rebound off a shot from Karlie Lema.

It took the Broncos (2-5) a while to get the offense going, but they did it late in the match. Santa Clara managed to earn six corners over the final five minutes of action but the Cal defense was able to turn away each one.

NOTES

  • Santa Clara attempted five shots and put two of them on target. All of the shots were taken by Izzy D'Aquila.
  • Cal took eight shots and put four of them on goal.
  • The Broncos earned a total of 13 corner kicks, 11 in the second half, while allowing three.
  • Marlee Nicolos started and made two saves in the first half. Kylie Foutch played the second half and made one save.
  • Santa Clara is now 20-24-8 all-time vs. Cal.
