Late Goal Leads to Draw for Women's Soccer Against No. 9 Stanford

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – A goal in the waning moments turned a win into a draw as Santa Clara women's soccer and No. 9 Stanford finished at 2-all on a rainy Sunday night.

The Broncos (2-5-1) got on the board right away on a goal from Izzy D'Aquila in the second minute and went up 2-0 when D'Aquila completed the brace with another goal in the 22nd minute.

The Cardinal (7-1-1) got one back late in the first half and then a free kick from just outside the box in the 89th was converted just inside the far post by Jasmine Aikey to salvage a draw for Stanford.

NOTES

  • Santa Clara put four of its nine shots on goal. Stanford got off 18 shots with six on target.
  • Colby Barnett and Keren Goor assisted on D'Aquila's first goal with Annie Karich and Farrah Walters assisting on the second.
  • Marlee Nicolos played the first half with Kylie Foutch playing the second. Both keepers made two saves.
  • Ryan Campbell made two saves for the Cardinal.
  • There were 3,411 fans in the stands.
  • Santa Clara is now 21-24-9 all-time vs. Stanford.
