D'Aquila's Historic Night Leads Women's Soccer to Blowout of San Francisco

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's soccer rode a historic night from Izzy D'Aquila to a dominant 4-0 win over San Francisco in a nonconference matchup from Stevens Stadium on Thursday night.

D'Aquila became just the third Bronco (3-5-1) with at least four goals in a match, scoring in the 13th, 56th, 58th, and 73rd minutes. She joins Kristi DeVert who scored four against Oregon State on September 11, 1991 and Mikka Hansen who scored five against Gonzaga on October 25, 1996.

The defense was just as good, allowing the Dons (5-2-3) just one shot the entire match.

NOTES

  • Santa Clara attempted a season-high 22 shots while putting 14 on frame.
  • The Broncos got two assists from Annie Karich and one each from Alyssa Bourgeois, Marisa Bubnis, Makoto Nezu, and Colby Barnett.
  • Marlee Nicolos played the full 90 minutes for the first time since injuring her ACL last season. She made one save.
  • Despite the four goals, San Francisco keeper Megan Nail played well in net. She made 10 saves, including several highlight reel worthy stops.
  • D'Aquila's offensive showing was the 30th hat trick or better in program history and the first since Farrah Walters on September 9 of this year at Oregon. D'Aquila also becomes the 19th player in program history with at least three goals in a match.
  • The Broncos now have two hat tricks in the same year for the first time since 2013 when they got four, three from Morgan Marlborough and one from Sofia Huerta. That year, they finished second in the nation in scoring.
  • Santa Clara is now 37-2-1 all-time vs. San Francisco.
