Two Softball Players Named Preseason All-WCC; Broncos Picked Fourth

SAN MATEO, Calif. – Santa Clara softball players Emma Bickford and Ashley Trierweiler were named 2022 preseason All-West Coast Conference by a vote of the league's six head coaches.  The Broncos were selected to finish fourth by a vote of the same panel. 

Bickford, a redshirt junior, is a two-time All-WCC honorable mention selection in 2019 and 2021.  The Bronco third baseman started all 28 games last season and posted a slash line of .329/.389/.506.  She led the team with two home runs, six doubles and 19 RBIs.  

Trierweiler, a redshirt sophomore, is the reigning WCC Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-WCC selection.  In 93 total chances patrolling centerfield, Trierweiler did not commit an error last season.   At the plate, she set the program record with a .481 batting average finishing second in the nation among players with more than 50 at-bats.  Trierweiler led the team with 21 runs scored, 37 hits, three triples, 45 total bases, 11 walks, a .560 on-base percentage, .584 slugging percentage and 18 steals.

BYU, the defending conference champion, was picked to repeat for the 2022 WCC title.  The Broncos play at BYU on April 29-30. 

The Broncos opens the 2022 season on Friday at UC Davis at the NorCal Kickoff.
