Softball Beats Pacific 8-0 on Sunday to Sweep Series

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Hazyl Gray threw 4 2/3 scoreless innings and the bats supplied plenty of offense with 12 hits as Santa Clara softball beat Pacific 8-0 in five innings to sweep the three game West Coast Conference series on Sunday.

It was the first conference series sweep for the Broncos since 2019.

Gray was on her game punching out a career-high eight Tigers over 4 2/3 innings to improve to 4-6 on the season.  In one stretch, she recorded six-straight outs with a strike out as she gave up just two hits and three walks.

The Broncos (21-21, 3-6 WCC) gave her some early support putting up three runs on five hits in the first inning off of Pacific's starter Hannah Glad.   Emma Bickford brought home a pair with one of her two doubles on the day.

In the fourth, after a Bailey McLaughlin leadoff single, Abigail Charpentier lifted the ball over the left field fence off Glad for a two-run home run for her first career long ball.

Santa Clara closed out the game putting up three runs in the fifth on McLaughlin's RBI double and a pair of sacrifice flies by Ashley Trierwelier and Allyson Ferreira to run rule the Tigers (9-23, 0-9 WCC) for the second time in the series.

McLaughlin finished 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

Delaney Scully and Allie Capello had a hit apiece for Pacific.

Glad (1-4) suffered the loss giving up five runs on eight hits over three innings.
