Six Broncos Nab Softball All-WCC Honors

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Santa Clara softball had six players named to the All-West Coast Conference Teams, the league office announced on Tuesday.  The six honorees are tied for the most recognitions in Bronco history since 2015.

Redshirt junior Ashley Trierweiler was named to the first team while graduate students Emma Bickford and Allyson Ferreira along with sophomore Morgan Salmon were named to the second team.  Redshirt sophomore Hannah Edwards and freshman Hazyl Gray were recognized as honorable mentions.

The all-conference voting and major awards were voted on by the six conference head coaches.

A three-time first team selection, Trierweiler led the league in batting average (.486), runs (50), hits (71), doubles (14), walks (34) and on-base percentage (.584) in all games to help lift the Broncos to their first back-to-back 20 win seasons since 2005 and 2006.  In 15 league games, she posted a slashline of .340/.404/.447

Bickford, a two-time All-WCC honorable mention in 2019 and 2021, batted .301 on the year in 45 games and was even better in conference play with a .318 average while committing just one error for a .974 fielding percentage at third base.

Ferreira batted a career-high .297 in 38 games this season and had the third highest on-base percentage on the team at .378  In league action, she played in all 15 games and hit .289 to garner second team all-conference honors for the second time.

Salmon finished second in the league with 12 doubles and 38 RBIs with a slashline of .285/.342/.500.  The .500 slugging percentage was the seventh highest in the WCC.  One of the RBIs came on a walk-off single against Pacific to help the Broncos sweep the Tigers for their first conference sweep since 2019.  

Edwards led the Broncos with a 2.96 ERA while posting a 7-5 record with a save in 28 appearances to earn her first All-WCC recognition.  In WCC play, she appeared in eight of the 15 games.

Gray had a 5-8 record in 25 appearances including tying for the team-lead with three complete games.  The freshman southpaw led the pitching staff with a .240 opponent's batting average and strikeouts with 45.  In WCC action, she led the team in wins (two), ERA (3.29) and opponent's batting average (.173).  She also tossed a two-hit shutout at San Diego.
