Women’s Tennis Hires Former All-Southern Conference Player as Assistant Coach

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis head coach Clif Awuy announced the hiring of Alory Pereira, a former All-Southern Conference selection in both singles and doubles, as an assistant coach.

"Seven years ago, I was very fortunate to get a full scholarship to play Division I tennis in the United States.  It was like a dream come true.  And now, as that part of my life has been completed, I am looking forward to being on the other side of the game, as a coach," said Pereira who hails from Sao Paulo, Brazil and played at East Tennessee State.  "I am really excited about being part of the Bronco family and I cannot wait to share my experiences with the team and make college tennis memorable for the student-athletes as it was for me."

Pereira joins Santa Clara after serving as a private tennis coach the past couple of years following a successful playing career at ETSU where she was a two-time team captain.

"I am beyond excited to have Alory join the coaching team here at Santa Clara," said first-year head coach Awuy.  "Her knowledge of the game and her past playing experience will greatly benefit each one of our student-athletes.  Alory has played at almost every level from international juniors to the collegiate level to the professional level.  Those experiences will be a tremendous asset as we build a successful program."

Pereira climbed as high as No. 1,131 in the Women's Tennis Association singles ranking and No. 999 in doubles.  At ETSU, she was a first team All-Southern Conference in singles and doubles in 2018 and was a second team singles selection in 2017.

She received a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies from ETSU.
