SANTA CLARA, Calif. — A strong LMU team came into the Leavey Center Saturday and stopped a hot Santa Clara University volleyball team, sweeping the Broncos, 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-19), in a West Coast Conference matchup.
The Lions (7-6, 2-2 WCC) hit .411 as a team Thursday, including .478 in the third and final set. They needed that impressive performance in the third, as the Broncos (6-9, 2-1 WCC) came at them strong with a .476 hitting percentage themselves in the third.
Julia Sangiacomo tallied 14 kills on the night, giving her 1,289 for her career and moving her into ninth place on the Santa Clara all-time top-10 list. She's just four away from Amy Kohl (1997-2000) in eighth place with 1,293. Becky Potter (2000-03) holds the Broncos' record with 1,812 career kills.
Nive Tuileta collected 20 assists, giving her 1,485 career assists – just 15 away from 1,500 and 107 away from 10th on the Santa Clara all-time career list. Oren Abutbul had seven kills and Sophia Tulino added five.
LMU's Kari Geissberger led all players with 12 kills while hitting .455. Audrey Klemp hit a match-hit .571 with nine kills, and Jacquelyn Moore hit .545 with no errors and six kills.
