LOS ANGELES – Ivana Castro scored a game-high four goals and Bridgette Alvarez netted three to lead No. 18 Loyola Marymount to a 10-7 win against the Santa Clara women's water polo team, which got two scores each from Cathy Cantoni and Elle Surber.

Cantoni's exclusion goal with 2:30 left in the third period cut the LMU lead to 7-6 in the Golden Coast Conference game, but Alvarez scored twice in a one-minute span midway through the fourth quarter to make it a three-goal deficit for the Broncos (8-11, 1-1).

Santa Clara's Hannah Buck tallied a goal with 2:32 left in the game to make it 9-7, but Castro scored an insurance goal 17 seconds later for the Lions (9-16, 2-2) who snapped a two-game losing streak.

Erin Sheridan scored a goal and had two assists for the Broncos, while Sydni Estrella started her third-straight game in net since returning from injury and posted five blocks.

Santa Clara tied the game four times in the first half, but was never able to gain the lead.

Surber's first goal came with 5 seconds left in the first half and knotted the game at 5-all.

The Broncos held the edge with the man advantage, scoring 5 of 9 on the power play. The Lions were just 1-for-7.

Blair Akerland scored the first goal, on a counter attack, for Broncos, tying the game at 1-all with 5 minutes left in the opening quarter.

After earning a split in its two-game Southern California road trip with Friday's 8-5 victory over Azusa Pacific, Santa Clara faces San Diego State at 4 p.m. Friday in a home conference game.

The Broncos play their next three, all conference matchups, at home. They face Cal Baptist at noon Saturday and then Concordia (Calif.) at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, April 15.
