Women's Water Polo Falls to Sixth-Ranked Hawai'i

HIGHLIGHTS: Women's Water Polo vs. Hawai'i

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Irene Gonzalez scored a game-high four goals and Elyse Lemay-Lavoie, Chloe Barr and Femke Aan tallied three apiece to lead No. 6-ranked Hawai'i to a convincing 23-5 win over Santa Clara women's water polo on Thursday.

Hannah Buck, fresh off scoring a career-best six in Saturday's win over Cal State Monterey Bay, tallied a team-high two goals for Broncos (1-1).

Gonzalez also had an assist and three steals for the Rainbow Wahine (3-1) who raced out to a 7-0 lead and had 12 players in the scoring column.

Lemay-Lavoie, Barr and Femke Aan were each credited with two assists.

The Broncos briefly stopped the Hawai'i momentum midway through the second period by scoring three times. Buck tallied both of her goals and Lauren Paxton's scored with 4:27 left before halftime to trim the lead to 12-4.

But Lemay-Lavoie, Barr and Aan each scored in the final 2 minutes of the second quarter as the lead grew to 16-4.

Kelly Frumkin and Maggie Oys posted two assists apiece for the Broncos who play at Cal State East Bay on Saturday.

NOTES
Lydia Dadd, Hannah Buck, Annie Eldredge, Lauren Paxton, Kelly Frumkin, Maggie Oys and Hailey Eberle started for the second-straight game.
