Broncos Drop Both On Final Day Of Bruno Classic

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Santa Clara women's water polo put a bow on their time at the Bruno Classic with two final games on Saturday. The Broncos fell 12-5 to Long Island University in game one, but played much better and nearly came away victorious against Saint Francis (PA) but ultimately fell 10-9 to finish the tournament 1-3.

vs. LIU

Lauren Baglietto and Elle Fredrickson each scored a pair of goals in the 12-5 affair. Freshman Avary Torres scored the other goal and was credited with an assist. Fredrickson tallied a team-high three kickouts drawn and was 2-for-2 on her scoring chances. Liyara Senadhera played the entirety of the game in the net, finishing with 10 blocks.

The Broncos trailed by three at 5-2 after the first period of play, but LIU opened things up with a 5-1 second quarter to take a big 10-3 lead into the half. Santa Clara's defense fared much better in the final two stages allowing just two more goals the rest of the way.

vs. SAINT FRANCIS (PA)

It was a much closer affair when the Broncos played against SFU. The Broncos went goal-for-goal against the Red Flash with a dead-even 4-4 score at the half. Saint Francis edged SCU, 4-3, in the third period, which would prove to be the difference as both teams scored two more in the fourth quarter. Chloe Morrision led the way with a hat trick of three goals as one of seven Broncos to find the back of the net. Morrison was 3-for-8 in her scoring attempts and also tallied an assist. Lauren Voss was credited with a pair of assists to go with one goal, one steal and a kickout drawn. Elle Fredrickson, Natalie Brauser, Kate Rodman, Maddie Clough and Harper Daniels also tallied a goal to the scoresheet.
