Men’s Golf To End Fall Season At Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara men's golf team wraps up its fall season competing in the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational beginning Thursday. The event will play a single 18-hole round each day over the next three days at the 6,484-yard, par-71 Stockton Country Club.

The Broncos have played some brilliant golf through their first four fall events finishing among the top-5 in each tournament, including a title at the six-count-five 13-team Utah Ogio Invitational on October 7 when the team scored an even-par 1,065.

Most recently the Broncos took a fifth-place finish at the 20-team Bill Cullum Invitational scoring a season-low 282 in the first round. Santa Clara competed with several teams ranked in the top 50 in the country.

Gio Gandionco and Tyler Kertson each scored below-par in all three rounds of the Bill Cullum Invitational and they both have recorded four straight sub-par scores. Gandionco captured his first top-5 finish by taking fourth place with a career-low tournament score of 8-under 208. He drained a tournament-high 39 pars and bested his previous tournament low score of 211, which he carded at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate last February.

Kertson earned his second career top-5 finish coming in fifth at 7-under 209, also a tournament-low score, besting his previous low of 210 that he carded at last year's Pacific Invitational.

The Broncos have ended their fall season competing in this event in each of the last two seasons and have registered their lowest 54-hole team score of the season in Stockton both years. In 2012 Santa Clara finished 35 shots under par with a score of 829 and last year took a second place finish with an 833 (-19) total that included a 17-under 267 final round.

Joining Gandionco and Kertson in the Broncos' lineup will be freshman Hayden Shieh, junior Drew Miller and sophomore Evan McLeod. Michael Hultquist will compete as an individual.

A tournament recap and results will be posted on SantaClaraBroncos.com at the conclusion of each round.
