Men’s Golf Looks To Move Up Leaderboard At Desert Mountain Intercollegiate

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The momentum of last week's tournament win at the Arizona NIT didn't carry over for the Santa Clara men's golf team, which struggled to a 10th place finish after the first two rounds of the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate. Third and final round action takes place Sunday on the 7,107-yard, par-72 Outlaw Course at Desert Mountain.

The Broncos scored rounds of 295 and 299 to end the day with a total of 594 (+18), still within striking distance of a top-5 finish, but well off the pace of leader Michigan, which holds a 2-shot lead over Texas A&M with a 562 (-14) total.

Sophomore Hayden Shieh carded the Broncos' best round of the day with a 2-under 70 over the opening 18 holes. He slipped down the leaderboard with a second-round 78 and is tied with four other golfers, including teammate Tyler Kertson, for 37th at 4-over 148. Kertson fired an even-par 72 during the second round to climb 20 spots on the leaderboard.

Evan McLeod, Michiel Eyre III and Charlie Watson are all within a shot of each other heading into Sunday's final round. McLeod totaled a 151 (+7) for the day to tie for 49th, one shot better than Eyre, who tied for 53rd with a 152 (+8) total.

Watson rebounded with a second round 1-over 73 to move into a tie for 56th at 153 (+9).

Everybody in the field is chasing Texas A&M's Ben Crancer, who holds a two-shot lead over Michigan's Chris O'Neill with an 8-under 136.

Sunday's final round begins at 7:30 a.m. PT with live scoring available at golfstatresults.com.
