Men's Soccer Continues Opening Weekend with West Virginia Sunday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Coming off a season-opener against a top-10 opponent, Santa Clara men's soccer returns to the pitch Sunday at 7:30 p.m. against West Virginia at Stevens Stadium.

The Broncos opened the season against No. 6 Maryland and got out to a 1-0 lead in the third minute but couldn't hold off the Terrapins and ended up falling 4-2.

THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara (0-1) attempted nine shots and put six on goal in the season-opener. The Broncos also drew four corner kicks against Maryland.

Brandon Gillingham and Valdemar Andersen scored the two Santa Clara goals, both unassisted. Miles Robinson led the team with three shots, two on frame, and Gillingham attempted two shots on goal.

Dakota Havlick made three saves in his first action of the season.

THE MOUNTAINEERS
West Virginia (1-0) took its first game of the season 1-0 at Cal on Friday. The Mountaineers managed just three shots but put two on goal and their defense was able to withstand 14 shots from the Bears, four of which were on frame.

Jad Arsan scored the only goal of the match on his only shot of the night. Both Jorge Quintanilla and Rushawn Larmond picked us assists on the score. Larmond and Brendan Hogan were the two others two attempt shots with Hogan's being on target.

Stephen Banick made four saves for his first shutout of the year.

Parking: For weekday matches, the Leavey Center lot, located on Accolti Way off El Camino Real, is free beginning one hour prior to kickoff. Any other parking facility on campus will be subject to normal daily rates or restrictions, including the main structure, located adjacent to Stevens Stadium on Palm Drive.
